In the News this week there has been a lot about Diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that cannot be prevented & requires the management of insulin.
đ§Type 2 - not everyone with type 2 diabetes is overweight, obese or has an inactive lifestyle but these are the most common causes of type 2 diabetes.
đ§Your chance of getting type 2 diabetes can halve by losing weight if your overweight.
You can do this by making nutritious food choices and doing at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day.
đ§There is also a clear link between type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure (hypertension) and / or disordered levels of fats (cholesterol) in the blood.
đ§New Zealandâs diabetes rate is higher than Australia and the UK, with about one in twenty people having the disease.
đ§It often leads to other illnesses such as liver and heart disease and can result in limb amputations. Throughout the world, it's estimated that every 30 seconds one leg is amputated due to diabetes
đ§A blood test can diagnose diabetes. Changes to food choices & exercise can be a road out of this direction toward diabetes. I often find though there is a lot of confusion as to what is considered âhealthyâ although I prefer ânutritiousâ. Old school ways still prevail. đA new client mentioned to me recently that she use to be hungry most of the time. With a few tweaks to her food choices she is now not hungry & feels fuller but also losing weight slowly. Itâs having the knowledge to make some small changes, thats what I do along with encouraging fitness to improve heart, muscle, bone health.
đItâs also the month for Press ups, Prone holds, Wall Sits as an additional move to do at home. Iâm also encouraging saying no to Easter Eggs & Buns this week or at the very least in moderation. Consider what life you want?
